After years of fighting to fix the Kenmore Roundabout, the Liberal National Party’s Federal Member for Ryan, Julian Simmonds MP, and State Member for Moggill, Dr Christian Rowan MP, have welcomed Labor’s long overdue $12.5 million commitment to this notorious intersection, announced over the weekend.
Dr Rowan said the State Government had no choice but to follow the leadership shown by the Liberal National Party in addressing local traffic congestion.
“Along with Julian Simmonds MP, the Federal Member for Ryan, I have been fighting to fix the Kenmore Roundabout, and I have repeatedly called on the State Labor Government to accept its responsibility and seriously address this local road issue.
“Thanks to the funds first committed by the Federal Morrison Coalition Government, the Palaszczuk Labor Government has been shamed into finally acting to improve traffic and safety at the Kenmore Roundabout.” Dr Rowan said.
Federal Member for Ryan, Julian Simmonds, said he had secured the $12.5 million during the election to get the project started.
“We’ve been fighting State Labor not to stand in our way and they’ve finally come to the party kicking and screaming with matched funding,” he said.
“It’s an important project and shows with the LNP team working together, fighting for what we need here locally, that projects get funded,” Mr Simmonds said.
Dr Rowan said while it was an encouraging start, more needed to be done by the Palaszczuk Labor Government to address traffic congestion across the western suburbs of Brisbane.
“This announcement, whilst welcome, is well overdue and is an admission by Labor’s Minister for Transport and Main Roads that the Palaszczuk Government has failed to adequately plan and deliver solutions to address the western suburbs’ ever-increasing traffic congestion.
“While this is a positive start, I’ll continue to keep the pressure on the State Labor Government to fund solutions to bust traffic congestion locally and across the western suburbs of Brisbane.
“Only the Liberal National Party can bust congestion and get you home safer and sooner.” Dr Rowan said.
