Dr Christian Rowan MP, the local State Member for Moggill, is asking for any local resident in the electorate of Moggill, who didn’t get to a polling both on Saturday because of concerns regarding the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus, to contact the Moggill Electorate Office if they receive a fine from the Electoral Commission of Queensland for not voting.
“I have been inundated with calls and emails from local constituents, who had very serious, and genuine, concerns about the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s decision to tell Queenslanders to leave their house, during this COVID-19 Pandemic, and attend local voting booths last Saturday.
“Many of these local residents are elderly, and either living alone or with a compromised immune system, and had great difficulty getting to a booth, let alone accessing the ECQ’s phone-voting service.
“If such vulnerable residents are ultimately fined by the ECQ for not voting during the recent Local Government Election, I will be fighting on their behalf to try and avoid any fine being imposed.
“Should such residents receive a fine in the coming weeks, please contact my Moggill Electorate Office by phone on 3737 4110 or via email at moggill@parliament.qld.gov.au and I will fight for you.” Dr Rowan said.
