As we approach this year’s Winter season, Dr Christian Rowan MP, the State Member for Moggill, is reminding all local residents to consider getting their 2020 Seasonal Influenza (Flu) Vaccination.
After receiving his annual flu vaccination, last month, Dr Rowan said one of the best things we can do, as a community, to help alleviate the pressure on our health system is to ensure we look after our own health, which includes doing what we can to protect ourselves from the flu.
“An annual flu vaccination is an important public health strategy to reduce the harms and risks of transmitting various strains of the influenza virus.
“In getting your annual flu vaccination, you’re not only protecting yourself, but also the broader community.” Dr Rowan said.
Under the National Immunisation Program, eligibility to receive a free flu shot has been broadened, and now includes: children between 6 months and 5 years of age, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 6 months and older, all persons 65 years and over, and pregnant women.
Dr Rowan encouraged residents to contact their local GP or community pharmacy to book an appointment for their flu shot as soon as possible.
“Our local GPs and community pharmacies are an invaluable part of our health system, and I have seen first-hand the incredible work they are doing, here in the electorate of Moggill, to ensure our local community is well looked after during these unprecedented circumstances.
“I would also again encourage all residents, who have further queries about the influenza vaccine or experience any symptoms of ill-health, to contact the free 24/7 Queensland Health Hotline 13HEALTH (13 43 25 84).” Dr Rowan said.
