In recognition of World Diabetes Day, State Member for Moggill, Dr Christian Rowan MP and Diabetes Queensland hosted a special ‘World Diabetes Day – Walk on the Speaker’s Green’ at the Queensland Parliament.
Dr Rowan, as an Honorary Ambassador for Diabetes Queensland, gathered Members of Parliament from all sides of the chamber, to receive the latest statistics and information on the prevalence of diabetes in their individual electorates.
Dr Rowan said this unique bipartisan event was an important reminder of the critical role that physical activity has in preventing and managing all types of diabetes.
“Regular exercise and moderate physical activity is important for all Queenslanders to maintain good physical and mental health. For those living with diabetes, such exercise has been shown to also positively assist in the management of diabetes.
“It was a pleasure to join with elected representatives to promote this important preventative health initiative, and to show my support for the 1,890 local Moggill electorate residents who are living with diabetes.
“I would also like to thank local Kenmore resident, and Policy and Advocacy Manager of Diabetes Queensland, Rebekah Henricksen, for her assistance with this terrific event at the Queensland Parliament.
